Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Saturday called for “a new way forward” after President Trump withdrew his endorsement amid the once-close duo’s growing rift.
Greene thanked those who showed their support in a post on social platform X, a day after Trump called her “wacky” and pulled back his support. He has also threatened to back a primary challenger against her.
“I never thought that fighting to release the Epstein files, defending women who were victims of rape, and fighting to expose the web of rich powerful elites would have caused this, but here we are,” the Georgia Republican wrote in the post. “And it truly speaks for itself. There needs to be a new way forward.”
She added that “toxic political industrial complex thrives on ripping us all apart but never delivers anything good for the American people, whom I love.”
Without naming Trump, Greene said she believes in the American people “more than I believe in any leader or political party,” and that the country deserves better leadership.
“The [people in charge] tells us to hate each other, fundraises off why we have to hate each other, and pits Americans against each other to the point of violence and nearing civil war,” she continued. “This is all so wrong.”
Not long after the post went up, Trump ripped the Peach State lawmaker as a “Lightweight” who “betrayed the entire Republican Party when she turned Left.”
“Just another Fake politician, no different than Rand Paul Jr. (Thomas Massie), who got caught being a full fledged Republican In Name Only (RINO)!” he posted on Truth Social.
Following his response, Greene shared a graphic on X referring to her as a RINO — but with an “A” score on the conservative scale — and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) with a “MAGA” stamp and an F on the same scale. A second graphic showed that she has not received money from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
“This and the Epstein files is why I’m being attacked by President Trump,” she posted. “It really makes you wonder what is in those files and who and what country is putting so much pressure on him? I forgive him and I will pray for him to return to his original MAGA promises.”
Trump responded on Truth Social, calling the lawmaker a traitor and “a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!”
The criticism between the two erupted amid the release of email exchanges from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, in which the president’s name is mentioned. Greene was among four Republicans to sign a discharge petition to force a vote in the House on requiring the Department of Justice to release all information about their probe of the disgraced financier.
Trump urged Republicans not to engage in anything Epstein-related, which Greene called a “huge miscalculation.”
She has also called the Trump administration’s handling of affordability issues into question, claiming the president is “gaslighting” Americans on the issue and criticized Trump for meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa instead of working with Republican lawmakers to push for an alternative to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and expiring subsidies that could raise health insurance premiums.
Prior to the end of the shutdown, after Greene lambasted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for not offering an ACA alternative, Trump said the Georgia Republican had “lost her way.”
“I have to view the presidency as a worldwide situation, not locally,” he wrote. “And we could have a world that’s on fire where wars come to our shores very easily.”
Greene pushed back on the remarks earlier this week, telling The Hill in a statement, “I haven’t lost my way … I’m 100% America first and only!”
